JAWNY - fall in love

Los Angeles indie artist Jawny (stylized JAWNY) brings us another hit with his single “fall in love,” released on February 10th, 2023. While his previous releases “Honeypie” and “Trigger of Love” became popular sounds on TikTok, Jawny skyrocketed to success in 2019 after his work was featured on various Spotify playlists, including “Bedroom Pop” and “Ultimate Indie.” Jawny signed to Interscope Records in early 2020.

fall in love” is among Jawny’s more laid-back works, bringing breathy, melancholic vocals standard to the dreampop genre over delicately balanced violin, piano, and percussion that swells into a beautiful ending chorus. As the opening verse plays, the video depicts Jawny trapped in a dark hole with sunlight streaming in, evoking a sense of personal isolation despite “having the spotlight” on him. Fumbling in the dark with a lighter, Jawny struggles but eventually escapes the hole, only to wander in a field among a series of painted-cloud backgrounds placed in staggered rows, where he is joined by two other wandering versions of himself.

This music video combines perfectly with the lyrics and style of “fall in love,” as Jawny’s lyrics paint an all-too-relatable picture of being stuck on a lost love, but the visual cues deepen the meaning to potentially include struggles with addiction, fame, or the search for authenticity in a world driven by mass-production.

Lovers of Cage the Elephant, Cigarettes After Sex, and any indie-pop or dreampop, check out Jawny’s “fall in love!”
